The latest release, HyperThrust, from Mike Spawn is nothing short of inspiring. Brief interview and album below.
ET : Introduce yourself man where are you from in the world, or should I say what year did you time travel from?
Mike Spawn: My real name is Guillaume I'm a French music producer born in 1987, so I'm more of the 90's generation than the 80's. Retro music inspires me and evokes me recklessness, joy, hazardous flashy colors and a kind of nostalgia.
All my childhood I was rocked by Genesis, Stevee Wonder, Michael Jackson, John Carpenter, Alphaville etc and some French artists as Michel Berger, Jean-Jacques Goldman and bands like Gold and Image.
ET : Have the floor man, talk a bit about your latest release Hyperthrust ?
HyperThrust is my first album and I wanted to revisit several kinds of retro styles like Synthwave, Outrun or Dark wave. The 80's are a gold mine where a lot of different musical styles have emerged and plenty of new sounds with the advent of synthesizers. It's very fun to pick and mix severals influences in a same track.
ET : Any musical background ? I studied to become a sound engineer wich is my job now, but I'm graphics designer too and produce music for documentaries, short films, and some other audiovisual programs. Creation takes me a lot of time and that's how I make a living so I don't have much free time.
